We packed up our entire campsite (again), but this time with more excitement since we knew we’d be showering in a real shower and sleeping in a real bed in Connecticut in a few hours.
But first, of course we had to visit another waterfall at…
1: Texas Falls
Which, surprise, is in the Texas Falls Recreation Area and was a 90 minute drive away from last night’s home at Little River State Park near Stowe, Vermont.

The parking situation is on one side of the road and there are a handful of spots. There’s a pit toilet there and it wasn’t that scary.
The falls are a short walk away and you can see where you’re going from the parking lot. This place is really cool because they’ve recently re-vamped the main bridge you walk on to view the falls, but kept all the ruins from what was there before. You can get a some really cool photos here.

You can also keep walking in two different directions, one of which is to the left and follows the river through the woods. And one of which is to the right and leads to… I have no clue, we didn’t go there, but probably the same thing.

Apparently people get really hurt here by wanting to avoid the walk back and slipping as they try to cross the river back to the parking lot by boulder-hopping. Don’t be that person, be safe and walk your lil butt back in one piece.
Then we drove 4 hours to…
2: The Omni Hotel, New Haven, CT
Since we ended more north in Vermont than we started, our drive home would have been substantially longer if we did it straight through. Hence, Connecticut over night pit-stop. I’d never been in this state before despite living relatively close, so it was nice to cross it off the list.

In case you’re curious, our stay was $165/night after a discount I had through Expedia – you can also book directly through their website, here: https://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/new-haven-yale.
It was pretty cool to be this close to Yale University as a retired GT/AP high-achieving perfectionist with a past obsession with the Gilmore Girls. Part of me wanted to go to the bookstore to get a classic sweatshirt, but honestly I was so wiped out.
But we did get dinner at…
3: Menya Gumi
Which is a delicious, super aesthetic, Japanese restaurant and probably 10 minutes walking from our hotel. The atmosphere was relaxing, it was just one waitstaff and one chef, and the food was delicious and so comforting. Our first “real” cooked meal in days and I’m so glad we chose here.
It’s at 165 Orange Street in New Haven, Connecticut, 06510.
You can stalk their tasty menu here: https://www.menya-gumi.com/menu.
We shared the ebi mayo ($9), I got the vegetable curry rice ($15), and my boyfriend got one of the ramen’s (it’s killing me that I can’t remember which, but they’re it was between $15 and $17).
We walked around a few of the streets near our hotel for and grabbed some ice cream, then called it quits for the night.
