Seven Magic Mountains is a sculpture installation by artist Ugo Rondinone that you can find in the middle of nothing right outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s seven stacks of rainbow-painted boulders arranged in a crooked row and are meant to be commentary on the intersection of nature and urban environments.
The installation was supposed to be temporary but has been extended at least twice because of how popular it is.

Anyway, it was a much worthwhile pitstop on our otherwise uneventful drive into Las Vegas through hours of desert. You can see it from the highway and it made me smile to see this colorful thing out in the distance sticking out like a sore thumb.

You turn off the highway onto a dirt side road, find a pretty good sized parking lot, and just walk right up to it. It was super hot, unshaded, and really cool.

We didn’t spend long here (see: heat) but I would totally go back for another quick pit stop. I’d love to see it around sunset because apparently the neon paint is supposed to be pretty glowy.
